Santa Catalina Island, just 26 miles off the California coast, is a truly amazing place that seems to be one of the best-kept secrets of Southern California. It is quaint, scenic, and has a history that most people are totally unaware of. It’s the kind of place that has plenty to do, or nothing to do.Dance on the historic dance floor of the iconic Catalina Casino Building. Kayak among seals and kelp beds. Zip-line down through the canyons. Fishing, scuba diving, hiking, or just beach sitting. The choice is yours.

And the food? From fish tacos to one of the top three steaks we have EVER eaten. They have you covered. It was a bucket-list destination for us, but rather than cross it off, we have moved it to our must-return-to list.

We were excited to learn that the Budweiser Clydesdales were visiting the island for Independence Day. What a treat it must have been to be there to see those enormous horses parade through the narrow streets of the island town of Avalon, where most folks drive golf carts. We have some plenty of photos of the island, but the Clydesdales make pretty good tour guides, so we thought we’d let them show you around.
