Start your fudge fantasy with the best fudge for the job.

Ever wonder why fudge today doesn’t taste like you remember from childhood? Maybe that’s because it is not the same. The gold standard homemade fudge of yesteryear for many households was the aptly named “Fantasy Fudge”  made with the recipe on the back of the most popular marshmallow cream jar. When the marshmallow cream maker sold out to Kraft, the fudge recipe apparently was not part of the deal, because the one on the current Kraft jar has been altered just enough make the fudge different from the original.

But never fear, the genuine Fantasy Fudge recipe lives on to help you indulge these seven fantasies and anything else you might be able to dream up. Hey, what you do with your fudge is your business. No judgment here.

All it takes is a couple of shots of peppermint schnapps stirred into the fudge before it sets up to turn everyday fudge into a fun party bite for grown-ups.

Drop it in a hot beverage.
Turn your coffee or hot cocoa into a fantasy drink with a cube of chilled fudge. Need I say more?

Make peanut butter fudge puddles.fudge fantasy
I have several recipes for fudge puddles that are certainly delicious, but using the original Fantasy Fudge kicks the whole thing up a notch. I use peanut butter cookie mix for convenience, but any recipe will work. Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough into mini-muffin pans and bake until just starting to brown. Use a rounded measuring spoon to create an indention in the cookie as soon as they come out of the oven. Once they have cooled, remove from the muffin pans and set aside for filling with the fudge.

Top a cake or some cupcakes.
Before the candy has time to cool, it is the perfect consistency for rich icing. Make sure the cake is completely cooled, then slather on and spread with a wet cake knife for a complete fudge fantasy dessert. It’s a near-perfect topping for a chocolate sheet cake.

Use Ritz crackers, graham crackers, or just about any cookie you have in your pantry for the ultimate fantasy fudge-wich.

Chocolatize your beer.
Start with a rich porter. Drop in a chunk of fudge, which will sit in the bottom of your glass slowly dissolving into the beer, giving it a rich sweetness you never dreamed possible from a simple piece of holiday candy.

Serve the richest wine dessert you have ever tasted.
Crumble two pieces of Fantasy Fudge in the bottom of a wine glass, add one scoop of vanilla ice cream. Crumble another piece of fudge onto the ice cream and top with a small amount of whipped cream. Gently pour a rich port wine down the edge of the glass until it surrounds the ice cream, but not so much that it floats. Your wine-loving guests will thank you for this fudge fantasy.
